RESPONSIBILITIES OF OFFICERS

President: 
The President shall generally supervise, direct, and control GPULYP’s business as well as the Executive Board.  The President shall have such other duties as may be prescribed by these Bylaws.  The President may, with the discretion of the Executive Board, appoint committees for special purposes.  The President shall supervise respective activities of Chairpersons on Standing Committees, with the exception of the Policies and Procedure Committee, and shall represent GPULYP on the GPUL Board of Directors. 

Vice President: 
The Vice President shall act in the absence and/or disability of the President and shall perform all duties of the President when so acting.  As acting President, the Vice President shall have all the powers of the President, as appropriate.  The Vice President shall serve as an Ex-Officio Member of all Committees.  The Vice President shall have such other duties as may be prescribed by these Bylaws.  

Secretary: 
The Secretary shall attend to the following:

• Books and Minutes: The Secretary shall keep, or cause to be kept, a book of minutes of all meetings and actions of the Executive Board and the members; place of holding, whether regular and/or special; and, if special, how authorized, the notice given, the names of those present at such meetings, the number of members present or represented at members’ meetings, and the proceedings of such meetings.
• Notice and Other Duties:  The Secretary shall give, or cause to be given, notice of all the Executive Board and members’ meetings required by these Bylaws to be given.  The Secretary shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive Board and/or these Bylaws.

Treasurer: 
The Treasurer shall attend to the following:

• Book of Account: The Treasurer shall keep and maintain, or cause to be maintained, adequate and correct books and records of accounts of the business transactions of GPULYP.  The books of account shall be open to inspection by any member at all reasonable times. 
• Deposits and Disbursement of Money and Valuables:  The Treasurer shall deposit all money and other valuables in the name and to the credit of GPULYP with such depositories as may be designated by the Executive Board; shall render to the Executive Board, upon request, an account of all transactions as Treasurer and of the financial condition of GPULYP; and shall have other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive Board or these Bylaws.  The President and one other member of the Executive Board must authorize all GPULYP check requests prior to disbursement. 
• Meetings:  The Treasurer shall make and/or provide a report at each Executive Board and membership meeting.

Communications Officer: 
The Communications Officer shall generally support and coordinate the communication efforts of Executive Board and the GPULYP such as e-mail blasts, invitation, maintenance of all distribution lists, social media messages, and more.

Each officer will serve one year or reelected for a second term.  No officer shall serve more than two consecutive terms.

Membership Spotlight – Stacie Thornton

  Stacie Thornton is the YP Treasurer overseeing all financial transactions.  She has also served as the fundraising chair during her 2 years with YP organizing fun events such as the YP Boot Camp, Light Rail Pub Crawl and Shred-It.  Stacie moved to Phoenix from Detroit in 2007 through a job transfer with her employer (SmithGroupJJR).  She is the HR Manager for SmithGroupJJR’s Dallas and Phoenix offices.  Stacie was referred to YP as a great way to network and meet other professional minorities.  Stacie was born in New Jersey but grew up in a suburb of Detroit.  She earned her B.A. from Michigan State University and M.S.A. from Central Michigan University.  She’s been with her current employer for 6 years and in HR for almost 14 years.  Stacie loves volunteering.  As the employee events committee chair and sustainable community outreach co-chair, Stacie leads the volunteer initiatives at her job.  She volunteers at HomeBase Youth Services, Ronald McDonald House of Phoenix, Habitat for Humanity, UMOM, Women Arizona’s annual clothing drive, and lead a supply drive for shipment to servicemen and women serving in Afghanistan.

Adopt A Family

Thanks to the generosity of YP members and friends, we were able to make the holiday season a little more joyous for a valley family. We adopted a family of 10 for the Christmas holiday — a grandmother and her nine grandchildren for whom she cares, ranging in age from 11 months to 13 years. We hosted a mixer in December where YP members and friends graciously donated cash and gift cards totaling $427! After an afternoon of shopping at Wal-Mart, we had purchased toys, pajamas and clothes for all of the kids, a new quilt for grandma, and blankets and towels for the house! Finally, one evening in December, we delivered all of the wrapped gifts to the family. Grandma was so thankful for the generosity of all who donated, and the children (who were all very well-behaved) were very excited to see so many gifts just for them! We could not have made this family's holiday a little happier without the support of the YP family — members and friends! Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all who participated in our 2011 activities.  We know that 2012 will be the best year for activity participation amongst Young Professionals and guests.  Looking back at 2011, it is amazing how many activities, volunteer, and networking events we held.  Below is a condensed visual recap of past events such as the Annual Whitney M.
